UnitedHealthcare Benefits
In mid-November, you’ll receive your
annual benefit summary from Towers Watson.
The summary will contain coverage and cost information for 2012, similar
to the annual
communication
sent in previous years by Aon Hewitt.
In December, retirees will receive two
items from UnitedHealthcare – a Welcome packet
and a wallet ID card
(to
be mailed in two separate mailings).
The following
article was recently published in Unum's weekly newsletter to provide
more
background on UnitedHealthcare.
“Get to know your new health insurance provider: UnitedHealthcare" Oct. 3, 2011
Health
care touches all of our lives, our loved ones — and our pocketbooks. So
it’s only natural
we’d want to know a little about the
company
that’s going to provide our health insurance starting
in January 2012.
UnitedHealthcare by the numbers
UnitedHealthcare
is an operating division of UnitedHealth Group, the largest single health
carrier
in the United States. Based in Minnetonka, Minn., United
offers
a full spectrum of health benefit
programs for individuals, employers and
Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries. The United family’s
87,000
employees serve more than 75
million people in all 50 states and 18 countries worldwide.
More than 38
million of those are UnitedHealthcare customers.
United's
nationwide network includes more than 650,000 physicians and health care
professionals
and 5,000 hospitals.
Recognized quality and customer service
United
has been recognized by many national organizations for its strong focus on
customer service
and quality.
The
American Medical Association rated United number
one in claims processing accuracy
among the seven leading commercial
health insurers
in its 2011 National Health Insurer
Report Card.
The
J.D. Power and Associates 2011 Employer Health Insurance Plan
Study ranked United
highest
in employer satisfaction
among the nation’s
self-insured commercial health plans.
United
earned the top
overall ranking among insurance and managed care companies
in Fortune magazine’s 2011 list of the World’s Most Admired
Companies.
Industry leadership
Like
Unum, United is a recognized leader in the health and well-being industry.
The company’s
goals include improving the quality and effectiveness of
health
care for all Americans, enhancing
access to health benefits, creating
products and services that make health care more affordable,
and using
technology to make
the health care system easier to navigate.
United
has invested nearly $3 billion in the past five years in research and
development, technology
and business process improvements.
These investments
led to
changes that are improving the way
care is delivered and administered
across the entire industry.
Shared commitment to community
United
and Unum also share a strong commitment to their communities. UnitedHealth
Group’s annual
giving campaign collected nearly
$14 million from employee
pledges and company matching gifts last
year, while company employees performed more than 200,000 hours of volunteer work. The company
provides
grants in
collaboration with Youth Service America, supports health profession
programs
that help combat childhood obesity, and has a national alliance
with Make-A-Wish Foundation.
In
1999, the company committed more than $187 million to establish the United
Health Foundation.
This nonprofit private
foundation is
dedicated to
improving the
quality and cost-effectiveness of
medical care, providing health care
services for those in challenging circumstances and enhancing
community
well-being.
