UNUM RETIREES -- Annual Meeting, 2011 By Mary Guy |
The second Annual Meeting of
the Unum Retirees was held on September 27th, at the Italian Heritage
Center in Portland, with about ninety members and guests attending.

Following the
Social Hour and Luncheon, Roger Rioux welcomed members and guests. He reviewed last year’s first annual meeting as Unum Retirees, as a result of the merger of The Headlighters and VALUR. |
Roger advised that the
Volunteer Hours normally requested with the Invitation to the annual
meeting,
was not sent. He encouraged everyone
who did volunteer work of any type, to submit their records
(to Beverly Dahms, 46 County Rd Scarborough ME 04074, Tel # 839-4371).
Volunteers, who accumulated 50 hours or more to non-profit organizations are
eligible to receive a grant
to one of the organizations.

Roger advised that
donations totaling 140 pounds were collected and shipped overseas for the
Soldier
Project.

Following Steve’s report, he
advised that we are still financially in good shape and no dues is
required
from the membership. Our luncheon
was mainly subsidized by Unum. Thank
You again Unum.
Brook Corson with Ava |
Roger introduced
Brook Corson of “Mutts With
A Mission”, which is a non-profit organization, and Ava, a 2 ½ year old Dutch Shepherd service dog. Their purpose is to train dogs to become Service Dogs for American veterans, wounded warriors and soldiers/sailors providing the following types of assistance dogs: Mobility Assist Service Dogs, Psychiatric Service Dogs, Therapy Dogs and Skilled Companion Dogs. Door Prizes were presented to, Joanne
Gerrity, a new member, her donation of $100.00 is going to the
Animal Refuge League in Westbrook and Joanne Elkanich, her donation of $100.00,
is going to St. John’s
Church in South Portland.
