Words from the Chair

 First let me say that we all miss the contributions from Mary Guy who died on April 20. She was a long time board member of the retiree groups VALUR and Unum Retirees. We valued her energy and active participation in our meetings. She epitomized what it means to be a volunteer to the many organizations she supported during her long retirement.

The picnic on June 19 at Two Lights State Park in Cape Elizabeth was held on one of the best weather days to date. We had about 75 people which was short of what we had expected. Please check out the pictures included in this issue and plan to come next year.  

Our Annual Meeting is scheduled for September 25 at the Italian Heritage Center.  We hope to see many of you there. Invitations will be mailed in August.


Please keep track of your volunteer hours as you can get up to $500 for your favorite charity from Unum. Unum will donate $1 per hour for volunteer work for a 501C3 (non-profit) firm. A minimum of 50 hours is required, not to exceed 500 hours per 12-month period (it can be other than a calendar year). Cycle deadlines for reporting hours  are June 1, September 1, and December 1.  If you are doing some volunteer work for 501C3 organizations, please apply for the service grant from Unum. The form to fill out is included on Unum Retirees website.
