A Shattering Trip

By Audrey Davis

We left Zephyrhills, Fl. (no I did not win the Power Ball!) at 6a.m. on a Thursday morning. Our plan was to reach Florence, S.C for our first night stop over.

We had an uneventful trip to the SC Welcome Station where we stopped to get our discount motel coupons. I then took the driver's seat. Things were going
well until about mile 80 when I saw mowers up ahead but because of heavy traffic I couldn't pull over.

Just as I pulled even with them an object came flying at our windshield shattering it into millions of tiny, sand like pieces of glass and the projectile
fell onto my lap.

Some would say that the shatterproof glass did a good job of slowing down its speed making it fall on my lap instead of into my face. Others might say
the money belt I was wearing kept me from injury. I prefer to see God's hand slowing the impact. I pulled over on the shoulder, the concerned mower
guys called their super and after determining there was no injuries, they arranged for us to stay at a nearby motel where it took me awhile to comb the
glass bits out of my hair.

They were able to find a glass installer who had the correct type of windshield and could do the work next morning.  We were not able to get on the road
until after 1.p.m. on Friday, a 24 hour delay.

The people we met on this lay over are a story in itself.
