Cherry Blossoms in DC   By Brenda Anastasoff

This spring Bob and I thought it would be nice to go to DC and see the cherry blossoms.

I have been wanting to do this for years!  I have a sister who has lived in the area for 30 years and we have never gone during this time of year!
We had gone down many times over the years as our children were growing up but always went during summer vacations.

Over the years we had heard how beautiful the blossoms were and had seen news clips of them, but that doesn't compare to being there in person.

I had heard that this year peak was going to be around April 4th - 6th.  So we planned on being there from April 2nd through the 10th.  As it turned
out, this was perfect planning.  When we got to VA (where my sister lives), the temperature was unseasonably cool for that area -- they were running
in the 50's.  So that delayed peak beyond the 6th (which was a Saturday).  The weather was not very cooperative and on the 7th, we decided we
would definitely go to DC on the 9th (having heard peak was delayed).

Well, we planned it just right!!  On the 9th the blossoms were in full bloom!  As you can see by the photos, they were beautiful.  Again, the pictures
don't do it justice.

If you ever want to visit the blossoms plan on being extra days before and after predicted peak because Mother Nature has Her own timeframe!
