Sherri J. Hodgkin Ballard, 46, died on June 27, 2010.  She was born March 2, 1964,
in Portland.  She was a 1982 graduate of Deering High School.
She worked at Unum for several years.
Sherri lived in Charlottesville, Va. the last couple of years.
She is survived by her husband Gordon of Portland.

A time of visitation was held July 3 at the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home
in Portland.  Funeral  services were held on July 4, at the Seventh Day Adventist
Church, Allen Ave. Portland.
Interment was held at the Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland on July 7.


Paul R. Dunn Jr. passed away.  He was born in Boston, Mass., on Aug. 13, 1943.
Paul attended schools in Newton and Lexington, Mass. and then Mt. Hermon Prep School.
He then went to Ohio where he graduated from Miami University.

Following that, Paul joined the Peace Corp. and served in Micronesia. Upon his return he
worked for John Hancock in Boston, Mass., and then at Unum in Portland as a Senior Underwriter.

Paul and his family have been long time summer residents of Drakes Island in Wells.
He also lived in Kennebunkport, Cape Elizabeth, and Vero Beach, Fla. He retired to
Minneapolis, Minn., and was there when he died from complications from cardiac arrest.

A memorial service was held at the South Congregational Church in Kennebunkport
on September 10, 2010.  In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Paul may be made to:

Mary Bartlett Gardner, 90, died at her home in Kensington, Md., on Sept. 6, 2010.
A long-time resident of Portland, she moved to Maryland in 2005 to be near her family.

Mary Kathryn Bartlett was born in Lineville, Iowa in 1920, and moved to Lewiston
when she was nine.  She attended Lewiston High School and Bates College, where she
graduated in 1942 with a degree in economics.  That same year, she married Kenneth
Franklin Gardner of Portland.

After graduating, Mrs. Gardner worked as an economist for General Electric in
Schenectady, N.Y.  She also worked with the federal Office of Price Administration
(OPA) in Concord, N.H., and for Union Mutual Life Insurance Company in Portland.
In her 40s, Mrs. Gardner earned her teaching certificate and taught second and fourth
grades in the Windham schools.

Mr. and Mrs. Gardner resided in Portland for more than 40 years and enjoyed spending
summers with family on Bailey Island.

Visiting hours were held September 17 at the Brackett Funeral Home Brunswick, where
a funeral service was held.  Mrs. Gardner was buried at Bailey Island Cemetery.

Jean Stevens O'Neill, 81, of South Portland, died on July 9, 2010, in Norfolk, Va.,
after a brief illness.  She was born in Baring, on March 19, 1929.  She was a 1947
 graduate of Calais Academy and attended the Holy Rosary Business School.

While in high school, she met her future husband, Lloyd (Bud) O'Neill. 
On July 4, 1953, they were married in Calais and moved to Portland.  They had
 two children, and in 1961 built a house in South Portland, where she lived until
her death.  Jean was predeceased by Bud in 1984.

After moving to Portland, Jean started working nights, part-time, at Union Mutual Life Ins Company.

Once her children were in school, she returned to work full time at Unum and worked in several
departments until retiring, in 1993, with over 30 years of service.
She was a member of the Unum Retirees group.

Visiting hours were held July 16 at the Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel.
A funeral service was held on July 17 at the chapel.  Interment followed at Brooklawn Memorial
Park in St., Portland.

Carolyn King Thuotte, 76, of East Bridge Street, died on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010, at
 her home with her loving family by her side.  She was born in Portland on Jan. 5, 1934.
She attended Sacred Heart Grammar School and graduated from Cathedral High
School in the class of 1951.
Carolyn married Ronald G. Thuotte at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Portland on
Nov. 26, 1955; together they made their home and raised their family in Westbrook.
Carolyn was predeceased by her husband on March 21, 2002. 

Carolyn worked for Unum for many years retiring in 1997.

Visiting hours were held on  Oct. 24, 2010 at the Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, Portland.  
Prayers were recited at the funeral home on Oct. 25, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St.
Anthony de Padua (St. Hyacinth's) Catholic Church in Westbrook.  Burial followed at Calvary
Cemetery, South Portland.  Those who wish may make contributions in Carolyn's memory to:

Viola J. Vlahakos, 87, of Saco, passed away on September 23, 2010 at the Monach
Center in Saco.  She was born in Saco on Aug. 12, 1923.  She was a graduate of
Thornton Academy, class of 1941, and also graduated from Northeast Business
School in Portland.

Viola was employed by Bates Manufacturing in Saco for several years.  She also
worked for General Mills in Portland and in Boston.  Later, she moved back to
Saco and was employed by Unum, retiring in 1986.  Earlier, she had been Secretary
of the company.

Visiting hours were held September 26 at the Cote Funeral Home in Saco.  A funeral service was
held at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Saco on September 27.  Burial followed in St.
Demetrios Cemetery in Biddeford.
