Muriel C. Blanchard, 86, widow of the late Newman T. Blanchard,
passed away on Dec. 17, 2012, at her home in Scarborough.  She
 was born in South Portland on Aug. 25, 1926.  Muriel grew up in
the Pleasantdale area of South Portland and was educated in local
schools.
Muriel worked at Unum for 30 years, retiring as a supervisor of
customer services and pensions.
A celebration of life was held  Dec. 29, 2012, at the West Scarborough
United Methodist Church Scarborough.  Donations in Muriel's

Paul Edward Brooks, 54, a resident of Pine Point, Scarborough, 
died unexpectedly of a massive coronary on New Year's eve in North
Conway, N.H.  Born on Jan. 2,1958, he grew up in Cape Elizabeth.
After graduating from Cape Elizabeth High School, he completed
his baccalaureate studies at the University of Southern Maine with
a major in business administration.
He worked at Unum in the long-term disabilities group.
He was a generous contributor to his community and in 2011
was recognized as Unum's Volunteer of the Year, in part because of
his efforts for the American Heart Association, the Beach to Beacon 5K race, and the
Susan B. Komen Foundation.
A memorial service was held Jan. 5 at the State Street Congregational Church,
Portland.  The family held visiting hours on Jan. 4, at Jones, Rich, Hutchins
Funeral Home, Portland.

John Grogan, 77, Manager of the New York Sales Office for many
years and resident of New Canaan, died November 4 after suffering
a stroke.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kay Grogan.
He was born in Manhattan on Aug. 16, 1935, and graduated from
Manhattan College.  He later received an MBA from New York
University.  He spent his career in the insurance industry where he
spent 40 years as an executive at Union Mutual, The Equitable and MetLife. 
Visitation was Nov. 8, at Hoyt Funeral home in New Canaan.  A mass of Christian burial
was celebrated at St. Aloysius Church.  A burial followed at Lakeview Cemetery.

Mark S. Harmon, age 61, of Westbrook left us and embarked on his
next journey at his home with his wife and children by his side, as
he had wished. He was born on Dec. 31, 1950 and grew up in Portland.
Mark attended Portland schools and graduated from Deering High
School in the class of 1969.  He was student at the University of
Southern Maine, from which he graduated in 1973, with a degree in
History and Elementary Education.  Mark's life took an unexpected
turn in October of 1975, when a motorcycle accident left him
paralyzed from the shoulders on down.  However, he did not let the accident prevent
him from making the world a better place.  Among his many endeavors, Mark worked
at Unum from which he retired in the late ‘90s.  Mark will be terribly missed by Odilia,
his wife of 25 years.  Visiting hours were held  Dec. 21 at the A.T. Hutchins Funeral and
Cremation Services,  Portland.  A memorial service was held Dec. 22, at Prides Corner
Congregational Church, Westbrook, ME.   Mark believed we could stamp out hunger
in the world.  To that end,  please donate to a food pantry in your community or to the

Ray Hill wrote concerning Theo Hill who was his step-mother.
Theo passed away on July 12th 2012 in Arizona where she resided since 2009.
She retired from Unum on 12-26-86.   She went to work for Unum in 1948.

Boyd 'Bucky' Parker Jr., 76, of Center Ossipee, passed away at his home on Jan. 6, 2013.
He was born in Winchester, Mass. on April 12, 1936.  He grew up in South Portland,
where he played all sports throughout his school years. He graduated from Dartmouth
College in 1958 and Northeastern University Management Development in 1978.
Bucky retired from Unum Insurance and moved to Center Ossipee to enjoy his love of
golf and the Indian Mound Golf Course.
The family includes his wife of 50 years, Sandra (Clark) Parker of Center Ossipee.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.  Memorial donations
may be made to:  Central NH VNA and Hospice   780 North Main St.
