By Mary Guy

The first meeting of the newly formed Unum Retirees (a merger of the Headlighters and VALUR)
Organization was held at the Keeley’s Banquet Center, in Portland, on February 9, 2010, with over
eighty members and guests in attendance…….Wash., D.C. was snowed in, we received nothing.

Roger Rioux greeted the attendees to our first meeting of the newly formed Unum Retirees.  He
announced that there is no dues, at this time. Three meetings will be held during the year, February,
the June picnic and the annual meeting in October.  In addition, a newsletter will be issued in March,
June and November.

Bob Anastasoff , Web Master and Interim Editor, is looking for a volunteer to take over the duties
of Editor.  Please contact him at
boba2000@aol.com or 632-8562.

Roger advised that the By-laws, a Member Roster and Unum contacts for Retiree information.
are available on paper and will become available on computer.

He further advised that there is no requirement that you volunteer in order to be a member.

Roger introduced our guest speaker from Unum, Kathi Hanscom, Business Support Analyst in Underwriting and Chairperson of Unum’s Lending Hands, among some of her duties.  Kathi introduced us to www.AnySoldier.com   which is a web site for donating articles to service people  overseas.  Roger Rioux’s write-up next newsletter will elaborate on this organization.

Roger advised that we plan to donate articles, further information will be in sent at a later date, in this regard.  If you have a family member or friend overseas, in any branch of the service, please let Roger Rioux know, as we would like to send the articles to someone with a Maine connection.

Following  the door prizes, Roger thanked everyone for coming.

Thanks go to Mark Andrews for the great photos.
