Richard H. Badgley was born on Dec. 14, 1929, in New Britain, Conn.,
and passed away on June 6, 2010, in Winter Haven, Fla. of heart complications.

Richard went to Winter Haven, Fla., from Sebago Lake in 1998.
He was a firefighter and also worked for Unum Insurance Company in Portland.

He is survived by his wife, Priscilla J. Badgley, Winter Haven, Fla.

A memorial service was held June 15, 2010 at St. John's United Methodist Church
 in Winter Haven, Fla.

Larry Brooks passed away March 21, 2010 in Phoenix, Arizona.

He was about to celebrate his 70th birthday.  Larry retired from Unum in 1983.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Brooks


Neal C. Gould
, born on Feb. 19, 1926, passed away on June 10, 2010,
in Wellesley, Mass.  A graduate of Deering High School,  Neal attended the
University of Maine after serving with the U.S. Army in Europe during
WWII.

Neal worked for 16 years for Maine Savings Bank before moving to
UnionMutual as a vice president managing its mortgage and real estate
portfolio.

He raised his family in Portland with summers at Little Sebago Lake.
Neal retired to Florida in 1987 before moving to Wellesley in 2009.

Neal is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth Cameron Gould.

                                                           
Joanne C. Higgins
, 52, of Kidder Street, Portland, died Friday at the Maine Medical Center
following a long illness.  Joanne was born in on Oct. 7, 1957.

She worked several years in the disability department of Unum.
She is survived by her husband  Daniel Higgins.

A time for celebration of her life, to share memories and stories, was held March 10, 2010,
at the Chapel of Independent Death Care, 471 Deering Ave., Portland.

 

Phyllis E. Richard- Hilyard, 65,  died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010,
at a Westbrook nursing facility. She was born in Portland, Sept.
 12, 1944, and graduated from Deering High School.

Phyllis retired from Unum Corporation.

She was predeceased by her two husbands, Alfred Dalrymple
and Robert Richard.

An hour of visitation was held on February 20, at the Dolby
Funeral Chapel.  A service followed at the chapel.  A Spring
 burial was held in St. Hyacinth  Cemetery, Westbrook.

Helen B. Macomber, 86, of South Portland, died March 7,
2010, at the  Pine Point Nursing Care in Scarborough after
a brief illness.

She was born in Denmark on Sept. 15, 1923.

Helen grew up on the family farm in Jackson, N.H.She attended Fryeburg Academy, graduating in 1941.

On Feb. 6, 1943, Helen married Harold M. Macomber
of North Conway, N.H. 
She and Harold spent 59
wonderful years together until his death on June, 2002.

Prior to having children, Helen worked at Union Mutual in
Portland. 
After the birth of  her boys, she became a homemaker in
South  Portland. 
After her children were of school age, she was employed
at Kings and the Giant
Store, running the service desk at Mill Creek. Services
were private, per Mrs. Macomber's request.

Lilian Cameron (Holmes) Morgan, 89, a resident of Falmouth
for almost 60 years passed peacefully at St. Joseph's Manor
early Friday morning March 12, 2010.   She was surrounded by
 people who gave her great care and affection during her
decline.

'Lou' as she was known, was born Nov. 19, 1920 in Brighton
Mass. Lou was married for 52 years to the late Ralph D.
Morgan USN (Ret) who died in 1992.
         

She graduated from Brighton High School class of 1938 and the Katherine Gibbs School in Boston.

She retired from Union Mutual Life Insurance Company of Portland, Maine.

Visiting hours were held March 15, 2010 at the Lindquist  Funeral Home.
Interment was held in Pine Grove Cemetery Falmouth in the Spring..

Boris (Jake) Ponomarenko, passed away Sunday, April 25, 2010, at a Portland
hospital.

He was born Nuremburg, Germany.

He adored his wife Karin and they would have been married 41 years on May 24,
2010.

Although health problems kept them from fulfilling their retirement dreams, they
 spent the last few years reconnecting as a couple.  He is survived by his wife Karin
of Westbrook.

Jake worked in Computer Operations at Union Mutual on Forest Avenue in the late
sixties to early seventies.

                                                                                     

Robert W. Smith, 86, Cape Elizabeth, passed away peacefully
 after a long illness on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at Village
Crossings of Cape Elizabeth.

Bob and his loving wife of 64 years, Henrietta Ruth (Sharpe)
Smith, originally of Woodstock, Vt., moved to Village
Crossings over three years ago from their home on Stonybrook
 Road where they had lived in Cape Elizabeth for 46
years. 

Bob was born in Hanover, N.H. on July 28, 1923.  He grew up
in White River
Junction, Vt.  Bob was educated in Vermont public
schools and at Mount Hermon
School in Massachusetts.  After
graduation, Bob enrolled at Hamilton College in
Clinton, N.Y.,  in
the fall of 1942 .  Due to WWII, he interrupted his studies to enlist
in the Army.  

On Aug. 25, 1945, Bob and Henrietta were married in Woodstock, Vt.  After the war,
under the GI Bill, the young marrieds went to Hamilton College where Bob re-
enrolled  and earned an AB degree in 1949. Three years later he earned a law degree
 at Harvard Law School.

In 1952, after Harvard, the couple found themselves lucky to have the opportunity to
move to Maine when Bob landed a job at Union Mutual Life Insurance Company in
Portland as an attorney.  In 1959 he was promoted to assistant general counsel, and in
1964, to vice president and counsel of the company.  In the late 1960s until his retirement,
Bob practiced law as a Partner with the Portland firm that would become
Preti, Flaherty, Beliveau & Pachios LLP.

Bob is survived by his wife Henrietta of Cape Elizabeth

A  celebration of Bob's life was held March 14, 2010, at Hobbs Funeral Home.
A funeral service was held March 15, 2010, at St. Alban's Church.  Burial was held in
the Spring. 

Minnie Mabel (Mackie) Wallingford, 79, of South
Portland, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2010,
 surrounded by her family and friends.

She was born October 6, 1930 in Monson, Maine.

She married Robert “Pat” Wallingford on March 20,
1948.

She worked many jobs, including at Unum, in her
lifetime to support her family.

Her husband passed away in 1971.

Visitation followed by a funeral service was held May 24 at Hobbs Funeral Home.
Interment was held at Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland following the service.
