UNUM RETIREES ~ Winter 2011 Luncheon
by Mary Guy

The Winter Luncheon of Unum Retirees (merger of Headlighters and VALUR) was held on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at the
Keeley’s Banquet Center in Portland.

Following the Social hour and luncheon, Roger Rioux greeted members and guests.  Roger noted that we currently have no dues.
The luncheon was subsidized by Unum.  THANK YOU, again Unum.

Roger advised that the next function for the Unum Retirees will be the annual Picnic, to be held on June 21st, at Two Lights
State Park.

You may recall last year we participated in the “Any Soldier” project.  Donations collected at the picnic last year totaled over
133 pounds and we shipped seven boxes to three service people overseas.  We are planning to do another “Any Soldier” project
again this year.

Roger advised that the Unum Retirees is basically a Social and Volunteering Group.  We currently have 320 members.  The form
sent with the February luncheon invitation, should only be returned to us IF THERE ARE ANY CHANGES.

The Unum Retirees co-sponsor The Red Cross, at Unum, with the active employees Lending Hands group.   Roger advised that
tomorrow (Wednesday) he would be participating in the current Blood Drive.  Please contact Bob Wooten if you are interested
in assisting on any of the blood drives by email
Rwooten1@maine.rr.com or by phone 797-8982.  The blood drives average six
or more a year.  Please contact Bob for more details.

The two door prizes were won by Ellen Burrill and Dorothy Potvin.  Each will have $100 donated in their name to a charity of
their choice.
